Member of PGA Sports Medicine Staff Offers Insight into Cutting Edge Performance Therapies
Alpharetta, GA (PRWEB) September 8, 2008 -- PGA players like Fred Funk, Camilo Villegas, Trevor Immelman and Robert Allenby know that to be the best, they have to do more than just practice. Dr. David Levinson, member of the PGA sports medicine staff, just returned from the Deutsche Bank Championship tournament where he treated golf's greatest of the greats. What he has learned helping these champions can be applied just as effectively to all golfers -- indeed, all athletes -- seeking to improve their game.
"The most compelling change over the last two decades on tour is the players' focus on their personal physical well-being," says Dr. Levinson. "Having good equipment and taking some professional lessons are important, but as we've found out, strong and flexible bodies are the true essentials of the game."
A chiropractor for over 26 years, Dr. Levinson started applying his discipline's therapies to professional athletes as far back as 1985. In 1989 he started helping professional golfers figure out how to hit the ball farther and have their shots be more consistent.
Dr. Levinson's work caught the attention of the PGA and in 2004 the association invited him to join their sports medicine staff. Here, he perfected a cutting edge therapeutic system that combines chiropractic techniques with kinesiology, yoga, nutrition and functional strength training. "The advancement in the analysis of the functional movement of golfers bodies relative to the biomechanics of the swing are changing as rapidly as the technology that is going into making better clubs and balls," he says.
When not applying his therapies to PGA players, Dr. Levinson also helps other world class and recreational athletes reach their optimal level of performance. One of his patients even includes his son Isaac Levinson, a 2012 US Olympic hopeful in men's whitewater kayaking.
